With a minimum data speed of 12Mbps, users that reach their download capacity of 50 gigabytes will pay approximately $100.50 on ADSL2+ plans offered by Exetel, Internode, iiNet and iPrimus.

On an NBN plan, people who use the same amount of data will pay $76.50 with the same providers. That’s a 23 per cent decrease in price.

I went to the websites of these providers:

• Exetel: $49/month for 100GB
• iiNet: $69/month for 50GB on/50GB off
• Internode: $79/month for 200GB
• iPrimus: $49/month for 50GB on/50GB off

Of course there’s also TPG who offer unlimited ADSL2 for $59/month.

This isn’t just the usual incompetence we see in Australian tech journalism. This is flat out making stuff up to push a political point.
